I could write a novel on the iPad, but touch typing on the screen is slower and hurts the fingers a lot more than a keyboard (and if I add a keyboard to the iPad I might as well use a notebook). It's possible, but not as productive.

There's an app for that. Dragon Dictation. Free. And incredibly good.

Now the author can write his novel while being in whatever inspirational environment turns on his juices, ie on the docks or a boat like Hemingway smoking a pipe with one hand, holding a fishing rod with the other and all the while dictating his genius into a bluetooth headset clipped on one ear. I guess it'd even work in bed with his mistress. Not only would a laptop be clumsy to carry around in these situations, it would seriously affect the mood.

Dragon's even available for iPhone which would work better than iPad for Hemingway I guess.

Keyboarding is sooo "legacy".
