I don't try to push running on anyone though. Honestly, I try to push walking on people. It's easy for most. It's enjoyable. The health benefits are outstanding. Why not!

She might be interested in the "run, walk, run" style of training used by Jeff Galloway, a former Olympic marathon runner. He has training programs for any length, from 5k up. Lots of free info on his site.

I have a couple of his books. I've also used this training style successfully for some of my marathons as well.

Some people get wrapped up in their idea that run training should be fast, with lungs burning, or somehow it's not real run training. If she isn't enjoying it, she might just need to slow down.

She might also need to get warmed up enough that she gets into the "zone" so to speak. That personally takes about 30 minutes for me. One reason I love longer runs. I also would never win any sprint competitions. Definitely a distance gal.

That said, the best exercise is the one you love to do. So maybe a different activity if flat running doesn't work out. Trail running in the woods, hiking, biking, swimming, Zumba, cardio kick boxing classes...whatever works.
