i don't know how a country does it, but somehow have to make a good
estimate of the cost and decide whether it's worth it.
We invaded a country full of innocent bystanders. I hate this war with a passion, but having made this mess, we're obliged to clean it up. I don't know what the cost will be and I don't even want to think about it, but we are stuck with it.

it's icky.
but someone has to think about it.
as a so-called 'democracy', we citizens have to think about it.

we're killing those bystanders at a rate of at least 10,000 per year ...
at least.....
so far.

how long's it going to take to 'clean it up'?
what does clean it up even mean?

the next 10,000 and their families might just prefer we not clean it up.

and that doesn't count the wounded, or the 'bystanders' all over the world
who are radicalized into enemies, or the Americans KIA and wounded, or
the money.

sometimes you have to cut the losses ... right now we look too much like
the husband who SO loves his wife he beats her....
