I go through phases, there was a phase when I couldn't wait to get this week's NYT Review Of Books to find obscure but highly regarded novelists that nobody has heard of, then a science fiction phase, an epic fantasy phase, a mystery phase, lately I like the thriller genre.

You have "readerly" books and "writerly" books, these days I am definitely in the "readerly" camp, give me 6 hours of escape and I am your biggest fan. When I quit my current profession (hopefully in ten years) I plan to start taking university courses again, will probably go full-tilt "writerly" at that stage.
