I guess I could put in a good word for the IRS here. The day tax returns are due is NEVER earlier than April 15th. The 15th was a Sunday so we got an extra day until the 16th, which (as I am told) is Emacipation Day in Washington DC which resulted in tax day going to the 17th. Now I hear you can get two extra days to the 19th if you write a note claiming the big Northeast storm as a reason for a further delay.

Kinder, gentler IRS! :-)

And of course you can get an automatic extension by filing the proper form.

Though, as you noted below, you do still need to estimate your tax and send it along...

I'm please to say I mailed off my tax return (and estimated tax payment) yesterday.

I'm even more pleased to say I sent mine off in February and have already received my refund which, thanks to my son's birth and the purchase of several houses last year, was larger than anticipated. :-)
