I had a capital loss from an investment gone bad about two years ago that I carried forward to offset my gain on the sale at 138k (about 25,000). Then I sold bought back in at 115k and sold at 106 (9k loss). I'm not sure if this "loss" can offset any future BRK gain on that particular trade because I just purchased the same security.
