I have an elderly relative that I visit this time of the year. My job has been to try roundup and organize the tax information. As you can guess, this is not an easy task. Despite numerous phone calls and reminders throughout the year, it seems those Important Tax Information envelopes and documents get "misplaced".

As best as I can tell (comparing info from past year returns), we are still missing a 1099-R for a small annuity (~$300 a year) and a couple of 1099-DIV for under ~$100 each).

Thanks to all for your suggestions. As it turns out, the missing 1099-R was found after much searching. The 1099-DIV was not found but, before I left Monday morning, a call to the company did provide the dollar amounts. I did register her at the company website but could not view/print the 1099-DIV. I was able to request a duplicate to be mailed within 48 hours. Her friends now have all the info necessary to create the tax return.

It can be frustrating trying to help someone that lives 850 miles away. Her friends are getting to the point where they won't be able to help. Moving from her home to an assisted living facility has been suggested by several of us but falls on deaf ears. BTW, she will be 81 on tax day, April 17.

Thanks again.

George
