I have two boys in Montgomery County Schools ... we have been happy with their progress and their teachers. If you have children with special needs the county can offer phenominal educational resources. However, since the TAX revolts of the 80's, class size has suffered like elsewhere in the country. Elementry school class sizes are over 30 students. Check out their website, MCPS.K12.MD.US. They publish standarized test scores and individual schools have their own sites.

When we came to the area we were faced with the decision of lower cost house and private school or more affluent neighborhood, with better public schools. We choose the latter. See the article in todays Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) about school fundrasing by PTAs. Just one reason why more affluent neighborhoods have better schools, even in the same school system.
