I highly recommend getting an extended warranty on new HDTVs. They don't hold up the way TVs used to do. My first HDTV started blowing pixels after only a year. I'm on my 2nd one now (got smart and bought the warranty) and it's on its third motherboard (in a year).

I'm not going to say a warranty is a bad idea, but you've made a pretty generalized statement there. What brand(s) are those two units? What models? I've got a six year old plasma unit that's performing just fine.
