I left my job voluntarily on December 23, 2015, and started a new one on December 28. I was recently contacted by my former employer to inform me that they had neglected to remove me from the payroll and had issued me 3 additional paychecks before the error was caught. A quick check of my accounts on-line confirmed this.

A quick followup to bring this thread to a close. My former employer accepted the proposal that they forgive the 2015 portion of the error. This solution minimized the headaches for both parties.
