I like spreadsheets, and my skill with numbers is legendary, but I don't use them for investing. I've been using your Smarter Than Me (TM) method of investing for more than a year. These message boards are ongoing debates on the merits and defects of every good company on the market. All you have to do is publicly state an opinion here and debate from all sides (there are many times more than two) will begin. Professional analysts have fits over using message boards for market research, but evidence is building that they too use these (and other) message boards. I am especially grateful to those posters with the courage to list the problems of a company on a board that mostly consists of owners and supporters. I'm not a trader, and I get emotionally attached to companies that I own, so learning about real problems has been priceless for me. Also: the discussion on these boards is not just on specific companies, eg: this gorilla game board, but also recommendations on other sources of good market information: books, news, www sites, magazines, etc. It is becoming a real adventure.
