I like the idea of the 3-year averaged cash flow. An earlier response suggested something similar, pointing to a geocities retirement planner that calls for just over 3% withdrawals per year. For my portfolio, that amount is way more than our average annual expenses have been for the last 3 years, so that feels safe.

But I have a question about the other threads you refer to, I can't find them. Perhaps it's just a matter of my being a newborn Fool ... but could you give me a more specific pointer to the "end of work" thread you mention? I can't find a folder called Workshops - I see one called Fooolish Workshop but it doesn't include this thread.
