I looked briefly at putting real estate into an IRA. I did not do it,
mainly because everyone I talked to like accountants, USDA/FSA (in my case they were involved) and others turned white when I mentioned it. I don't think it was so much the economics as "'s just not done."
Everyones first response is that it wasn't legal until they did a little research. Then they still didn't like it I believe mainly because it is unusual and does have a lot of complicating factors.

Actually a local bank officer did put realestate into his personal IRA. Not entirely familiar with his situation except that he did it.
