I made several charities beneficiaries of my IRAs more than 10 years ago. At the time some weren't too knowledgeable but once I explained what I was doing, all were willing to provide the information, including tax number, my IRA trustee required.

For me this was a way to protect my IRA assets from income tax while benefiting some organizations I support. My closest relatives are cousins and they will get the assets outside which are not tax sheltered.
