I must say, when on page two I got to this sentence:

I think myself cured of all spite, but when I touch pen to paper, the hurt of a boy bleeds out with the sea-spawned ink, until I suspect each carefully formed black letter scabs over some ancient scarlet wound.

I had very serious doubts about bothering to continue reading.

But slowly I forced my hand toward the faded, grainy pages of the modestly-priced volume and touched a trembling fingertip cautiously to the merest edge of one corner of the page and, mindful that a greater fullness of experience often sheds a new and unexpected vision into previously hidden depths, timidly drew a single leaf forward... ever forward... until, with a sudden turning, page three was triumphantly revealed to my tired and prose-weary, but expectant, eyes.
