I only backup the following:

- Turbo Tax tax returns
- Registry files (use export to create this)
- Golf handicaps for myself and playing partners
- Document files (i.e.: Word output, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
- Photos
- Windows Live Mail contacts (use export to create this)
- Amateur Radio logs

I can reload all the programs from disc so no need to backup programs.

Every backup program I've tried gave me terrible results until I limited my backups to nothing more than data files.

I use a program called SyncToy and I manually run it every Saturday morning. I used to have a batch file set up to run this for me during the wee hours of the night but several years ago during a Daylight Savings switch SyncToy got confused and stopped working using the batch file method so I have been running it manually for a couple of 3 or 4 years. The output goes to a thumb drive.
