I opened an american fund for each of my grandchildren & happen to be comparing it with my index 500 fund which is doing better then their American Fund. Would it be a good idea to switch their funds to the index fund? Their ticker sym is anwpx, mine is vfinx. They are both young so I belive taxes would not be a stumbling block. Any suggestions?

I do not know what an "american fund" is, but are there no other funds that they own? If not, why don't you get into funds that you control and switch whenever you want.
