I posted the recipe because, after talking to most of my friends here in the US south, nobody had ever heard of these buns, let alone tried them. I was feeling a little homesick for my holiday traditions so I made a couple dozen buns and took them into work where they were well received. Might have been the stick of butter I took in to smother them with (the buns, not the staff)

That's because you are in the south. I grew up in the north, and trust when I say there are a lot of foods that are popular in one area, but the other area has no clue about.

Hot cross buns were very popular where I grew up, but that might have been because the Catholic population was so high. I've fallen in love with hush puppies since I've been here, but before moving south the only hush puppies I had ever heard of were shoes (which put some very strange pictures in my head the first time I saw them on a menu).
