I remember a conversation about a blocked kitchen sink, and I thought the word I heard was stome?

Those are synonyms. Satoom / Stima ; Chasoom / Chasima.

They are used in different contexts. A blockage in a drain pipe is stima. When a road is closed due to a road block it's a chasima. But if traffic isn't moving because there's a traffic jam then the road is satoom. Satoom is also derogatory for a thick headed idiot. Or non-derogatory if you just have a stuffy head due to a cold.

The garbage disposal/grinder is a tochen ashpah.
