I saw Gallagher perform live once in LA (around 1982), and I remember him doing a bit about language.

The one part I remember was about how similarly spelled words are sometimes pronounced very differently.

As an example, he mentioned ache ("A C H E") and then pointed to the whiskers between his nose and upper lip and said "M U S T A C H E" and asked if it should be pronounced "mistake."

He gave a few examples, including go and do.
