I spent 5 years active duty and have been in the reserves for the past 3 years. There have been times I regretted my Roth TSP contributions when I look at TSP performance compared to the Roth IRA I started after I left Active Duty.

I have chosen not to contribute any of my reserve pay to TSP and just use the reserve pay to cover more living expenses so that I can contribute more to my Roth 401k that enables me to purchase individual securities in addition to maxing my wife and I's Roth IRAs.
