I think I remember that his 'poor dad' was supposedly his actual dad, which means that he would sell out his own family for a buck.

I always had trouble with this too. While my father was not perfect, I would never throw him under the bus like that. He loved me in his own way and gave me all that he had to give. A person can ask for no more.

Honor thy father and thy mother.
