I think sensor technology continues to improve. Most of us have tire pressure sensors on all tires including the spare.

Oil monitors last car were strictly by preset mileage. Now the monitor seems to know something about my driving habits. Things like color and (not pH but) conductivity are easy to monitor. And of course records of speed, temperature, oil temperature, etc are easily available.

The monitors now are smarter than they used to be. And if based on solid research could be reliable.
