I think the complaints are mostly overblown. Remember, some of the people on these online automotive forums are members of a weird cult that think Vipers need more torque.

The first thing I did with my S2000 was replace the stereo with an MP3 player, upgraded the door speakers and added a small amplifier. The factory stereo is simply too weak to enjoy when riding with the top down.

The only realy modification I made to my car was the addition of a sport exhaust. The one I have (Fujitsubo) isn't a terribly loud exhaust, but it has a much more aggressive sound (more in line with the car's character), and even helped a little with midrange torque.

The the reality is, this car is solid and balanced right out of the box, nothing "needs" to be modified. About all I would recommend a dark tint and a fitted window shade to avoid sun damage to the interior.

$100 for a titanium knob is insane, IMO. I've never had a problem with the one that came in my car. In fact, that 'optional' knob looks a lot like the one they used on the 2000-01 cars. The big complaint back then was that it got too hot if the car was sitting in the sun all day, would burn your hand when you went to drive.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
