I turned on the tv last night after many days of watching nothing. (I think I watched West Wing and ER last week...oh and Law and Order) Just so happened that Dateline was on...what a bunch of garbage. The sniper situation is a tragic one, and a scary one for those who are near. What is most terrifying is that many many many more people could die before they find him, if they ever do. However, not only was the hour devoted to the sniper, and to another serial killer...but it's on the local news...and CNN day and night (at least that is what I'm reading here indicates). There is a certain amount of information the public is due from the news sources, but this has gone far beyond that. Is there nothing else worthy of reporting? Is any 'good news' out there not worth reporting on because it won't bring in the viewers? Are Americans so infatuated with Fear Factor 'type' television that they will only turn on a show if it will put fear in their hearts?

Ugh...

The news and state of the world are depressing enough as it is. We don't need any glamorization of it at all. I'm about to cart that tv out to the shed and leave it there for good. NPR and news off the web are far more educating. (Of course then I wouldn't get to see Martin Sheen play president once a week ;)
