I was disappointed that Medicare doesn't cover most dental work. I also looked at a couple of local dental schools, Southern Illinois University and St Louis University. The former has a 1-year waiting period. The later, as I understand it, is limited to treating gum disease. The discounted price appears to be about the same - up to 60% off what most local dentists charge.

I bought a dental insurance plan from Assurant a week or so ago. It only covers Basic treatment for the 1st 6 months. Major treatments are covered after 6 months. During the first year it pays only half of the scheduled fees. It costs $67.30/month and the maximum it pays (after the first year) is $1,500. I have 30 days to cancel it with a full refund - I probably will.
