I would be lying if I didn't admit that the ACA has taken some of the worry out of retiring. We were planning to use retiree health care, and still may until the presence of ACA causes the company to pull that perk.

But they have always had the ability to pull that perk at any time, and with pre-existing conditions from childhood, we would have found it close to impossible to find insurance. We were budgeting an extra $20K for that possibility, that's $20K over what the insurance would have cost through retiree healthcare.

But more choice? Competition? Not for us. We are moving to a rural area with only 1 provider staying around in the post ACA world. It is my understanding this is not unusual in rural areas. Fortunately we are pretty healthy, but I sure hope some of those other health care providers come back to play when they have a better feel for the ACA.
