I wouldn't get too hung up on having 4 wheel drive if you move to Denver. Dad got around just fine with his 2 wheel drive cars and pick ups for 60 years. I didn't get all wheel drive until 15 years ago and that's because I was an essential employee and had to be to work on time. The roads can be bad in the morning and dry in the afternoon. Unless you are going to be up in the mountains, 4 wheel drive isn't necessary to get around (and don't help you stop any faster anyway!).
You can't go wrong with a Japanese made old man car.
