If she was married to her husband for more than 10 years, she will qualify for benefits as his ex spouse..which likely will be more than those she has earned herself. (if she does not remarry).

That may help a bit.

You might look into whether she qualifies for food stamps or for Section 8 housing subsidies.

It sounds like a tough nut to crack.

She sounds fiercely independent and not willing to accept help from others, or not in any mental state to do the same. That is not a good situation.

At this point, she is likely to keep on working as long as she can, then wind up on SS disability when she really can't work any more. That will eventually get her on Medicare (after 2 years or something).
