If so, what kinds of stocks are best??

Hi Barbara!

Since you have a relatively short term outlook until you'll need the funds for college for your son, I'd say you don't want to put the money into anything that will be volatile. Stocks can be risky with such a short timeframe.

I'd say your best bet in this case would be to hold off cashing them in until you are ready to use the money for college.
