If you can delay visiting credit counselors, post your info straightaway here first. You MAY be able to avoid the counselors, at least for the immediate future. Are the folks you were planning to visit fee-based, or free services? The reason I ask is that there's probably a lot of experience here with either kind, and that could steer you one direction or the other.

Try the search feature on this site and look for previous posts regarding credit counselors... but I must admit that I have no experience with them myself.

Many times the services counselors provide for a fee are things you can accomplish yourself if you simply know how.
