If you get to Lake Superior near the Minnesota Canada border, check out the Naniboujou Lodge.

I was just talking with a friend who did the Lake Superior Circle Tour last summer (we did it about 10 years ago) and naturally this place came up. The history fails to explain why Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, and others would create a private club in 1928 in the middle of the middle of nowhere, other than being 3 miles south of the border.

Sylvania Wilderness (Watersmeet) is not quite on the par for canoe trips as the Boundary Waters, but pretty darn good (other than a few portages and mosquitoes).

Bob Zelinsky of Sylvania Outfitters is the expert. He also runs whitewater canoe-kayak trips of the Middle and West Branch of the Ontonagon.
