If you were retired since the year 2001 you mentioned and you had no pension or annuity and only had your portfolio and SS, would you be able to pay all your bills all those years from portfolio capital gains profits and/or portfolio dividends/distributions?

- no it wouldn't cover all my bills.

Or would you be eating into capital, reducing your portfolio all that time?

- yes would be eating into capital.
