I'll wrap this up a day early, since I'm getting impatient. This group performed about as close to the S&P 500 as could be. 31.97% vs 31.41% with dividends included, but not reinvested. Only SCHL could really be considered a disappointment, but @ 16.76%, even that is not so bad.

Because the markets returned so much this year, I've gotten more defensive lately, selling off some things and raising cash. It may be a challenge coming up with a batch of ten stocks that I feel good about, both relative to the S&P 500 and in an absolute return sense for 2014, but I'll do my best.

Of the 2013 picks, I've sold off SCHL, MRK & ETN, but still hold the remaining stocks. A few will return in my 2014 list.

I'll start a new thread for the 2014 picks.
