IMHO, you should break the problem into two pieces. As TMFPixy & others indicated; you are getting ripped off. So the first issue is to find a place that is low cost for the tactical operations of trading; e.g. minimal or zero account fees coupled with low (but not necessarily the lowest) trading commissions. In this regard, there are a dozen or more discount brokers with decent reputations. More can found about these organizations on the discount broker board.

Then you can move to step or issue two; what assets should buy. In this regard, there are many good ideas within the boards here starting with an SP500 index fund & RP4 & moving up to various technical & fundamental screening systems. However, what to buy requires a heavy dose of personal introspection in order to pick methods that fit you.
