immersing it in the tub and gently washing it (with a bit of spot treatment on the ugly spot). Don't have anywhere that we can lay it out...maybe the living room...

For spot treatment, I've had good luck with Shout. DD swears by Oxiclean.

To minimize puckering, use cold water only.

One of the links showed a picture of someone wringing out the water. Don't twist or wring. After washing and rinsing the quilt, and draining all the water, leave it lying in the bathtub and:
- step on it to squeeze out the water, then
- put towels on it and step on it some more. Keep switching out the wet towels for dry ones. Ideally you can put towels both under and on top of the quilt.

If you put a plastic drop cloth on the LR floor, and then towels or a canvas drop cloth on top of that, you'll have a good base for laying the quilt out.

Good luck!
