In addition to the information in the Fooldom, I have found visiting the web site of the company for stock financial history very helpful. Almost every company has information at their web site for investors. At GM's web site, you can get the dividend history (and other information) at So, on May 2nd, GM announced a $0.50 dividend/share for stockholder of record on May 12th. The dividend will be paid on June 10th. They paid $0.50 last quarter also.

There is also some good information at which you might find helpful.

Now, on reading the quote screen ...
- I believe the dividend listed on the Detailed Quote screen is for the already announced dividend that will be paid on June 10th.
- If you are looking to compare stocks that pay dividend, you may want to compare the dividend yield. This is the annual dividend divided by the stock price. So, GM is estimated to pay $2.00 in divdend. The stock price was 85.13 (05/08/2000). So, the dividend yield is 2.35% That's the 2.3 listed under Dividend Yield on the Detailed Quote screen. This is a number that can be used to compare against other stock that are paying dividends.

Hope this helps ...
