You were way ahead of your time.

Back then neither the standard Windows nor Mac desktop OSes had 64-bit cores, and few machines even had the hardware support for 8GB of RAM.

(I don't know the Windows timeline for 64-bit support, but Apple added limited 64-bit support to OS X in 2003, but only for background processes, and even then each processes were limited to 4GB each. True 64-bit support didn't come along until 2005. From then until early 2010, they shipped a single OS than ran in either 32-bit or 64-bit mode, depending on the hardware. Two years ago, they actually removed support for 32-bit processors!)
