In the end it's going to come down to money.

If a player has a contract for $1.6 million a season, that translates to $100,000 per game.

If the owners agree to make that contract now worth $1.8 million, the union will agree to an 18 game schedule.

If the owners insist that the contract stay at $1.6 million, the union will not agree to it.
