ince the Thunderbird format is not any standard formats, HTML, etc.. How can we read old emails if we delete TB or get a new computer and no longer have TB to install ?

What format are you referring to? I use TB and the choices I have to send e-mails in are HTML or plain text -- both of which are standard formats that can be read in virtually all (if not all) mail clients.

Perhaps you're asking how you would go back and access them if you don't have ThunderBird installed, and that's a whole other issue, assuming you use POP to access your e-mail and remove the messages from the server. But, that's the same issue you'd have with migrating from any mail client.
