I was able to logon to healthcare.gov at about 2 AM last night. Looks like Obamacare is going to save me more than $400/month for a policy with more comprehensive coverage than the GOP-approved, Texas-Teabagger health plan I have now.

I note that $400/month is enough to make the lease payments on a new Mercedes.

I got on to coveredca.com, the California exchange today. It seemed fairly responsive, although there were occasional glitches.

According to their numbers, the minimal plan for my family has a premium of $1248/mo. It is slightly better than the plan for which I am currently paying $500/mo in that it has a $6350/$12700 max out of pocket cost compared to $8500/$17000. Other than that it looks worse in every detail (that I've checked). I don't expect to get a subsidy; if I don't my cost will be 2.5 times what I'm paying now. Ouch!

So if I have to pay $750 more per month for worse coverage, does that mean I have to give up 1.5 Mercedes? I'd better lease a couple now so I have something to economize on.

And, yes, of course my insurance company is telling me I can't keep my current plan. Same company as the quoted plan, Anthem Blue Cross. Somehow this doesn't feel like "if you like your current plan you can keep it" as was promised.
