Interesting idea -don't know the answer. About 20 yrs ago my Mother in Law died and I was executor of her very small estate. Part of that was 100 shares of a worthless gold mine stock (the only stock she ever bought). Got a statement from some broker that it was worth $1.00 and would I please sign a release so they could get it off their books.

I responded and said that if they would send me a stock certificate (intention was to put it in the bathroom) and/or one dollar I would be happy to, but that I would really prefer the certificate.

They kept sending me statements and request for 8 or 9 years. I have no idea what that cost them but I guarantee it was a lot more than a dollar. Statute must have ran out or somthing because I finally did stop hearing from them.
