Ironically, this seems to be a scenario where money doesnt do the talking.

Are they shooting themselves in the foot? casinos must put in billions to the state in tax revenue.

Unbelievable really.

The article you linked to says that the casinos contribute 1.2 Million A Day to the state coffers. I'm guessing that's direct revenue, and doesn't include the extra that's generated from tourist spending while visiting - food, hotels, or whatnot.

A budget dispute precipitated this? Seems like an awful lot of employees to be unemployed, business that will be lost. And how will NJ make up these lost revenues? Mind-boggling. I guess it's a gutsy move by the governor. Will have to see how this develops ...
