It actually bothers me that my kids don't seem to know as much about tech as I do. Sure, they know the trendy stuff better -- Snapchat, Instagram, etc. Not that I'm completely ignorant of such things. But programming, system administration, networking, hardware, etc. are things that they are much, much less adept at, and it bothers me. It may be because, although those skills are not a part of my job description (well, maybe the programming part, and lab hardware), I use them at work, so I view them as more essential than, say, Snapchat and Instagram.

In my case, it IS my job, and my kids are pretty good at tech. They are not as good as I am, but I do not expect them to be. However, both kids were on a robotics teams from the age of 6yo and 8yo, eldest child built her first website at 10yo, younger daughter was programming at 8yo. Both have basic idea of how networks run, etc.
