It certainly sounds reasonable but one thing to keep in mind is the fact that it will be a little difficult to have much diversification with $9300 (or $500 to $1000 of that if I misread). You might be better suited to be in a fund with that amount. Perhaps consider ETFs as an alternative. You can get diversification at the cost of a stock transaction.

No reason for your money to sit for 40 years. Hopefully you can add to it.
