It doesn't matter. Either way you look at it, 100% of your NYS-source salary and severance is taxable to NYS since you haven't said that you actually *worked* outside of NYS. Even though you were at home in NJ while receiving your severance, that was at the convenience of the employer, but not the "necessity" of the employer.

While the instructions in the forms are not clear, I've also started to reach the same conclusion, but assgining the time I was at home into "Other Non Working Days", which brings me back to the same result as if I took the first option. Thanks.
