It would certainly cause me to look at different investments.

Also, I might do some interesting things like: Sell all of my appreciated stocks and buy them back the next day. Pay the capital gains tax @ 15% on the appreciation to date, instead of paying 25% or more on the whole gain.

As far as I know, the "wash sale" rule only prevents you from taking a loss, you are allowed to make a gain and pay taxes early.
