It's a real stretch on your part to blame Biden for the anti vaxers not getting vaccinated.

It's not blaming Biden for the anti-vaxxers not getting vaccinated, any more than I blame Biden (or Trump before him) for people dying from opioid overdoses not avoiding their overdose.

People make choices. Sometimes those choices are terrible and self-destructive. Part of the role of the government is to try to stop people from making terrible and self-destructive choices. That's why we prohibit lots of illegal substances. It's why we have seatbelt laws, and (in some places) helmet laws. It's why we have suicide prevention hotlines. It's bad if people do things that hurt themselves.

Part of the reason we do that is to protect the people from themselves. But another big part of the reason is that no one's self-destruction comes without fall-out. People who kill themselves through their bad choices leave behind damage to their families and their communities. People who merely hurt themselves through their bad choices can create even more costs that get borne by others.

Here, millions of people are making a self-destructive choices. They're mostly doing it based on ignorance and being deceived - nearly 80% of the unvaxxed believe the vaccine is dangerous. We like to pass around articles about the aggressive anti-vaxxers that get what's coming to them, but there's certainly millions of people who are just ordinary low-income, low-education folks who heard the vaccine is dangerous and are scared to get it.

To say nothing of the fact that even with vaccines, there's still a community health benefit to trying to get the unvaccinated to take the jab. As noted in the link above, breakthrough deaths were estimated to be about 2K last month. When these folks fill up the hospitals, it places enormous expense on the system and can cause access issues. Long covid cases will accumulate huge costs to the public and private insurance systems. And the more people that are unvaccinated, the more chances for a new variant to emerge domestically.

So there's a clear public health benefit to vaccinating the unvaccinated. If the government fails to pursue proper public health policy, that's something that the government can - and should - be held accountable for.
