It's not free when a spouse does it either. The opportunity cost of passing up even a job at McDonalds is huge.

Well lets see pasing up a job at McDonalds @ $6 per hour is 240 per week, if you have to pay someone to clean your house, do your laundry and watch your kids if you have them I think your a bit off on your opportunity costs here. Now if you followed your economics instructor very closley an opportunity cost is nothing more than a trade off, everything has an oppurtunity cost.

Your arguments simply don't hold water, I am currently able to complet my education due partially to my previous work in the military and due to the fact that my wife supports my going to school. To say that her helping/forcing (she won't let me work until I graduate) is not part of a team effort to increase my earning potential is foolish and an immature way of looking at the world. Anyone who doesn't view a marriage as a team effort is doomed to failure.
