it's part of waking up, the diurnal rhythm, the liver is 'told' to release some glucose energy to open your eyes with. if you've got "hit the ground running", because a tiger is about to pounce, you've got other hormones for that. the only reason you know about the "dawn"effect is that you (type 1) don't have any insulin to release so that your muscles can take up the glucose that the liver has released.
